It’s a brutal game. My infrequent losses can be summed up to my biggest character flaw: wanting to teach a specific player a lesson. When I focus too much on one player I lose.

At least your losses are infrequent. Mine seem frequent. I assume you play in cash games?

Yes sir, mostly cash. I did win one small $100k tourney in 2004 but rarely play them due to the variance. I also dislike when I merge with a brand new table without a warming up period where blinds are already burning off your stack. Luck is far too great a factor.

Just variance. But one factor is bankroll size. Small cash games are easier to win consistently over tournaments. But what is the objective. It sounds like winning large at tournaments vs fun just playing poker. I’m an OMC and play for fun in retirement when I can afford it. But I see a lot of people getting so angry at the tables after losing money.

I rarely get angry at another player and, if I do, I don't express it out loud. I get angry at myself when I make a big mistake, but that's rare these days. I get angry at the universe when I get my opponent to put in a lot of chips, he turns over a losing hand, and then gets a one-outer or two-outer. That seems to happen a lot. Like the time I raised a huge amount pre-flop with pocket As, shortly before the money. Two players called. The flop was 835 rainbow. I shoved. One player folded, and the other player called with... pocket 6s. On the river, he got a 6 to bust me out. I whispered something under my breath about why was that f...ing idiot even in the hand before the flop.
