I had a very interesting week. One bad event, which I won't discuss, but an overall net positive. I had expected to be testifying on one or two patent cases this week in Marshall, Texas, one as an expert and one as a plaintiff patent holder. I was in Marshall, diligently preparing for both cases. The first one settled Thursday at noon. I then worked hard to settle my own case against a division of Sony and got a very good settlement Thursday evening. It also looks like my software company is about to close a very large deal. So I'm home and allowing myself to play in the WSOP guilt free. This is a small, $500 buy-in tournament, but the prize pool is guaranteed at $5 million. Here's hoping my luck continues!
On the very first hand, I got A3 in the big blind. The flop was 45 10. I bet. One player folded. Another player called. The turn was J. I checked. The other player bet. I figured a 2 was ideal but an A would be good too. It was a 2, giving me a straight and the nuts. I checked. He bet. I raised. He called. I showed my straight. He folded but told me later he had pocket 10s for a set.
Got pocket Js. Raised and got 2 callers. Flopped a set, turned a full house. Won a big 3-way pot.
I was just dealt A 10. One player did a big raise. Another called. I figured it's still early and my stack is above average, so I called. The flop was KQJ rainbow. I checked. One player shoved. The other player folded. Of course, I called. He had KQ for two pair. The turn was 9, the river was 4. I knocked him out. I'm now the table chip leader.
Starting stack is $50K. I have $80K.
Just got pocket 6s. The flop was K6K. I did a small bet to hide my monster hand. One player folded. The other player raised. I hesitated, then called. The turn was 9. I checked. He bet $25K. I shoved. He tanked (thought for a long time) before folding. He showed KQ so I showed my hand. A WSOP blogger was at the table, so I was written up here.
My stack is over $135K.
Just got pocket 8s. The flop was 724. I bet $3K. The other player called. The turn was another 7. I bet $3K. He shoved for $6K. I figured I was behind, but for that little more, I called. He showed 7Q. I needed an 8 to win and... I got it!
I'm winning so many hands that I can't post them all. My stack is about $170K!
We’re on a long break. My stack is at $166,500!
Dinner break. I have $192K. Very good.
Got A2 in the big blind. One player raised. I called. The short stack called. The flop was AKQ. I bet $20K. The short stack shoved for $39K. The other player folded. I called. He showed pocket As. The turn was J. My only hope was a 10 to put a straight on the board and chop, but alas it was not to be. I lost a lot of chips.
I'm suddenly short stacked. ☹
I got A5 on the button. I shoved. I got called by the bug blind who had AJ. The board ran out A5JJK. For an instant, I thought I had a chance. But I busted out.😩
As they say in poker, it’s more important to do well at the end than it is to do well in the beginning. Oh well, I’ll try again tomorrow in another tournament.
